Journal 52 - week 10: Create for a Cause

Image
This is for Taiwan. For the past 24 days, students in Taiwan had been protesting peacefully against the state apparatus to fight for righteousness and democracy.  I created this flower for the cause as my journal page remembering of our striving for this beautify motherland, Taiwan. We will not give up or give in to it. God Bless Taiwan. PS. The art students created when occupying the congress building as below http://juan.tw/?p=2269

Hand Sewn & Embroidered Coasters

Image
R ecently I have been having a craze for embroidery.  At first I tried to stitch on card and now I am making some products in fabric.  I started from sewing coasters. I desire to make things with my own illustrations.  It surely would be easy that you pay some money and get them perfectly printed but the hand-made tells a different depth of story.  I did some research about sewing and stitching either from books or the  embroidery artist, 袁朝露-永無島手作刺繡雜貨 ,  Then I selected my existing illustrations to create a serial of fabric works. I chose the six characters in watercolor which I created more than a year ago when I was with  Carla Sonheim's Class for Faces 101 .  These were randomly painted and drawn and it came out to be individual personality for each character.  That is why I like them so much and ultimately wanted to sew them down to make products of my own.

Hand Stitched-n-Drawn Card

I finally made it and it was F U N ! hand-stitched on paper with color pencil highlight It has been a while that I watched and observed how stitching can be done on paper.  Long time ago I saw some artwork with stitching and was so attracted by the unadorned and innocent style stitched work could create on canvas and paper.

Handmade Bookmark

Image
I have been making some handmade bookmarks.  The style is inspired by Carla Sonheim from her class of flower crazy . I just love flowers and enjoy the exploring different types of imaginary flowers.  The paper I use is thick and acid-free watercolor paper, which makes it stiffer for use.  The media I use include watercolor, gesso and pencil.  When it's finished, I coat it with fix spray.
