Fall in Love with Sea Turtles

Image
So in addition to making art, I have a real side job as part-time translator.  Days ago, I was translating a travel document and reminded of one of my own trips when the content there depicted sea turtles and their preservation.  Right after my translation work, I flew to my art journal and made this washi tape picture.

Art Exploration - Oil Pastel on Acrylic prepped canvas

I just really want to explore more with oil pastel but it's been frustrating for not finding a way I am comfortable with to express.  With this piece of image, I felt much better and started a new piece right away as below. Well, this one at last didn't come to the result that I am happy with but I learned from it.  More valuable to me is that, like acrylic glazing, slowly blending the pastel colors really relaxes me. Maybe I'll show the complete work later.

Spanish Lavender.  Acrylic on Paper I have been craving to do some botanical illustrations, especially on herbs.  I remember when I was a little girl, I used to want to become a botanist.  Unfortunately, I was never good at bioscience and any related discipline that would support me for development on botany.  Nevertheless, I have still been fond of plants - flowers, aromatic herbs and all those things in garden.

Art Exploration - Acrylic Tracing Pattern x Watercolors

So this is what I worked out by trying one of the exercises in Carla Sonheim's book - " Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists: 52 Creative Exercises to Make Drawing Fun ".  I really like the Lab Series art books, by the way, which is really inspiring and fun indeed.  I also bought " Paint Lab: 52 Exercises inspired by Artists, Materials, Time, Place, and Method " and it is a great book to have, too. Okay, so the exercise I was doing there is tracing patterns with acrylic paint - black paint.  I was amazed how vellum paper can be turned into tracing paper and even with the bonus effect of those side marks.  That really made the outcome a little feel of black-print and I like that.

Hold on Tight

Image
As trying different types of acrylic blending, this one was done quick and quite fluid.  It somehow conversed with me during the painting.  I feel like giving a big hug and being given one and the artwork itself understands that perfectly.  That is what that makes a circle circle.  Giving and Receiving. Hold on tight what you love.  And may it returns to you the same and a fulfillment of happiness.

Fall Fearless and Fly - Second Challenge

Image
This is my first time participating art challenge online.  I signed up in Fall Fearless and Fly on Artists in Blogland and expected myself to take the challenge and made some good move for my art development. I caught up the second challenge given the following prompts. Headline Prompt :  Taking a Chance:  When did you take a chance or a leap of faith?  How did it turn out?  What did you learn? Color Prompt :  What color do you like least? Use it! Quote Prompt :  "Don't refuse to go on an occasional wild goose chase -- that's what wild geese are for." Anonymous It appeared to me that the color prompt was easier for me to start up.  I wasn't thinking much about the headline and quote.  I wouldn't say that I dislike a certain color.  It is rather that I have less control over some of them.  Orange was the first color came across my mind and I always have hard time matching it with dark blue like Persian blue.  Tha...

Art Exploration - Mixed Media on acrylic base

Artists have their own ways to create.  Many of they also try to explore new ones from time to time.  It can happen in a blink and the idea emerges, and of course disappear the same way, too. Many of my friends like " The Red Tavern " but they may not know it is a work that was done across two years.  It is a typical work that I started with a radon acrylic painting to prep the paper, left it aside, picked it up after a long time and put on collage without any plan.  Then, I sketched whatever I saw on the WIP.
